Frequently Asked Questions
What is color mapping?
Color mapping is a process used in fashion and makeup to determine the most flattering colors for an individual based on their unique skin, hair, and eye colors. It helps identify the individual's "season" (e.g., Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall) and suggests makeup shades and clothing colors that enhance their natural features.
What will I actually get from you?
When you purchase a color mapping service, you'll receive a personalized analysis that includes identification of your season, sub-category and your unique hair, eye and skin tones. From that we’ll provide you a slate of your most flattering colors. We also include some styling suggestions that allow you to capitalize on your colors without upending your entire wardrobe. We will also provide you makeup recommendations based on brands you identify from the outset. Finally, you’ll receive skincare recommendations that correspond to your concerns. It’s a lot, no?
Does it work for all skin types?
Yes, color mapping can be beneficial for all skin types. The analysis is tailored to each individual's unique coloring, whether they have fair, medium, or deep skin tones. The recommendations aim to identify shades and colors that complement the individual's natural beauty and help them look their best. Sometimes we have an issue mapping your color if the photos submitted don’t follow our guidelines (but don’t worry, we have lots of tips and tricks to make sure that doesn’t happen).
Where did color mapping come from?
Color mapping has its roots in the seasonal color analysis system, which originated in the mid-20th century. This system was developed to categorize individuals into different "seasons" (e.g., Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall) based on their natural coloring, including skin tone, hair color, and eye color.
The seasonal color analysis system gained popularity in the 1980s and 1990s, particularly through the work of image consultants. These consultants helped individuals identify their most flattering colors within their designated season and provided guidance on makeup, clothing, and accessory choices to enhance their appearance.
Over time, color mapping evolved to include a broader range of skin tones and undertones, reflecting the diversity of individuals' natural coloring. Today, color mapping is widely used in the fashion and beauty industries to offer personalized recommendations for makeup shades, clothing colors, and overall styling based on an individual's unique color characteristics.
